Architectural concept

It is an attic former laundry, from which architects create modern flat with elements reminding of the original non-residential function by using raw materials as wood, steel and industrial components and preserving dominant frames of the original latticed steel windows.

All three original rooms (laundry room, drying room and toilet) were connected by demolition partition walls. This creates airy space, which can be divided by sliding door manipulable over the whole length of the unit. Door is located in overlap with toilet crossbars and shower and it is allowing maximum sunshine and open space.

Separate toilet and a spacious shower are complemented by the sink in the form of a barrel, which can be opened and used as a storage space. Window in bathroom is across the whole wall.

The kitchenette is a combination of a fireplace stove, a hot plate and a workbench, with a sink and a dishwasher. The remaining appliances are hidden in the entrance portal within arm reach. On the workbench, there is also a vise and all the tools that are in the workshop and the kitchen needed symbolically hung above it.

Material solution combines raw materials and pure surfaces. Wooden floor, wooden doors and a workbench together with visible brick constructions and steel elements contrast with purity of white surfaces and gray niche with indirect ambient lighting.

Two window holes are oriented to the east and give a city view with a dominant Janacek Theatre and on to the horizon lined by Hady hills.
